Submission Completed

FeltUnited - International Day of Felt – October 2nd 2010

Felt – intertwined, bound together, forever as one - United.
based on this I combined Peace Felt (September) and Felt United (October)

2009 was the United Nation’s Year of the Natural Fibres and it was the first year for the
International Day of Felt.

Felters from around the globe joined together displaying their felt.
The theme for 2009 was a slice of the colour wheel, yellow through red. and it was a big success.

Take a look at all the photographs at; Felt United 2009

The theme for 2010 is another slice of the colour wheel: from yellow, through green to blue.

On the Peace Felt dicussion board an idea of producing two peace felts and keeping on and via this a connection to your reciepient. I liked this idea so I made 2 rugs with a Desert View.

The calm before the storm

It's been quiet here.. home alone for 10 days. I have enjoyed the time and have been felting up a storm. Peace Felt has happened and I know next year the circle will be larger, the new connections into the weave of our lives and makes us richer!

So my current project

starting to take shape! Back to the studio, need to clean up before..

Reward and a shopping spree!

I have been getting alot done... and if I need something in a week, she will be gone for a few days.. so I went shopping and got some silk caps, some silk, some wool and I can wait for the box by the door! Now the trick is a need to use some of the stuff I already have too!

Is a fiber addiction really that bad?

Jacket Finished

Silk lined jacket is finished. I think I like them better with the silk lining, a bit more work..

I am disappointed with the silk flowers which lost their color and took on the blue from the background. I guess I will have to dye my own silk caps! but first I will try some of Jill's outback fibers silk caps cause I just don't have time to start a dye project!

Blue and Purple

I just put a jacket onto the felt rolling machine.  It's a wonderful Celtic Moon Princess, sure wish I could have gotten the Empress but the baby was all that my budget could take! I do so love this machine. As I was working my jacket I have a slightly blue tint to my hands.. why.. the dye is comming out of my felt!  The blue is not too bad but my silk caps!!!! ahhhhh They were such a wonderful lilac color and now I am scared to look as they look to me as they are loosing the color! The colors at the fiber festivals always look so good, but they don't always stay that way!! So the mystery color of the final caps we will see. Rolling Rolling Rolling keep your felt a rolling felt on!

Jacket Lining and Art Show ramblings

After my morning ride, I started another Jacket, this one will be lined with silk.  I have the lining and the jacket stitched together. I have begun the design on the front and now I have taken it as far as I want to work dry. Stopped working on it to go do my Visiting Angel thing. I hate to call it work because I like this old couple so much!  I saw the artist call for the Scottsdale Arts Festival, it's in March 2011.. I am thinking about applying. Its just so much money and there is another feltmaker. Its only 30.00 to apply, so maybe I will try to do it.

Felt United Peace Felt

Finishing up a Peace Felt United

I joined 2 groups this year, Peace Felt and Felt United. Peace Felt is a circle and I am sending a piece to Salt Island BC to Terri. Today I finished the piece and felted it very hard so it can go on the floor.

The back of the rug. After I made a wonderful peace sign, Neill walked into the room and told me that's upside down, it's a flag alphabet ND for Nuclear Disarmament, I wonder what letters it is upside down.. so I added another.

My puppy loves this rug and as I work she inspects and tests things out!

I love this dog! Kasidy she helps me with everything!

Peace to you Terri!

Traveling Jacket also known as Jacket number 3

Blue Green Lady Bug

I went to visit my little sister and celebrate her birthday. I took along one of my new jackets to finish. I felted and designed and decorated and felted. I reached my rolling machine stage and I rolled by hand and then I thru it in the machine! A big mistake, different kind of machine and wow! So I packed my wet loose jacket into a margarita bucket and brought it home. A fresh bar of soap, (I was almost out!) and a few hours and I believe I have it back on track! I hope... so it is out of my hands for the next 28 minutes..

Lesson.. expensive lesson
Top Loader does not work like a front loader! Action of the front loader drops the felt, makes it harder. Front loader floats and swishes making it loose so very loose!
Darn!

It didn't shrink like it should have and the felt is fuzzy and soft. I have worked for a whole day trying to harden the felt. I don't think it's possible so it's like a cozy bathrobe! ahhhh

Jacket of 3

Working on my next jacket, I have ordered more wool to make a longer jacket. This will be another like the Kachina Jacket. My sister tried it on today and did she look good in it! OK when it's over 100 degrees outside a felt jacket sounds crazy!!! Since we were standing in the air conditioning she humored me. It looked so good! Yea..

So maybe I will add some picture later.

Desert Cactus completed!

Yea finally done, this one has storm clouds.

Felt Rolling Machine and the Peace Felt United

Today the piece was done enough to put it in the roller! Whew. I have a 24" rolling machine, I love it however the narrow width means I have to get the piece to a safe point to roll it folded. So today the piece went thru the roller many times folded in different ways. Now on to fulling. :-)

Circle of Peace Felt Around the World  and FeltUnited - International Day of Felt – October 2nd 2010
Felt – intertwined, bound together, forever as one - United.
I am going to fly from Phoenix Az to Kansas City on October 2. I am going to take my piece with me and make a traveling exhibition. I am working on a second piece which I will send to a new fiber friend in Sept and I will ask her to do something with the piece on October 2.
